Flowers and a Squirrel

I think spring is finally here! We had a few days last week that were warm, but then we had snow again, so I'm hoping that this time, the warm weather is here to stay!!!

And this little guy was peeking around our neighbors tree! He'd stay in one place until I took a few pictures, and then move to somewhere else. It was like he was posing for me!

St. Patrick's Day

Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone!

These were cupcakes I made for my sister's birthday! She was born on St. Patrick's Day! I thought they turned out really cute!

The clover's are white chocolate, and the "A" is butter cream icing! They were delicious!

Competition Results!

  I am so excited!!
The competition yesterday went really well; the heart/Bible picture got gold and the flag picture got bronze!
Also, the other three people who entered from my church got high placement as well, which means all of us are going to the regionals! Yeah!!!
And now, because no post is complete without pictures, here a couple I took of my sister yesterday while we were gone:

A Random Post

I am sitting on my couch, the laptop propped on my lap, and a cup of chamomile tea on the coffee table. It's eleven forty at night, and I have Sherlock playing on the TV.
  I have a cold.
May I just say, I hate feeling sick.
Anyway, I thought I'd let you all now I'm entering a couple pictures in a church competition this weekend. Yeah! Here are my entries:

I'm so excited! What do you think of them? The top one is going into the edited photography category, while the bottom one goes in the SOOC category.
So, that's all I've got for now. I'll be sure and post about how I do in the competition!

By the way, just as a side note, I've been wondering if I have an readers who are either Sherlock or Doctor Who fans (or both)?

Dolce de Leche Cupcakes

So, if you read the title and went "what?", don't feel bad.
I had no clue what this was until a few days ago.
Yes, I'd had it once before a long time ago, but I didn't know it's name, so it doesn't count.
Anyway, dolce de leche is a thick caramel made from - get this - sweetened condensed milk! I know! I've come to learn that anything that contains sweetened condensed milk is going to be amazing! I love looking at the Eagle Brand website's recipes; they all look wonderful!
So, my Mom follows this blog called Joy the Baker, and she posted a recipe for these cupcakes that had dolce de leche in the icing. Both of us immediatly wanted to try these, however we couldn't have 2 dozen cupcakes just lying around, so we decided to make them today for company.

  Oh.
  My.
  Goodness.

That's all I have to say.
Ok, well that's not all I have to say, but you know what I mean.

  These things were amazing!

On the recipe, it said to buy the DDL (I'm just going to abbreviate it; it's a long name to type!), but that you could make it. So, since none of our supermarkets would even have DDL, we decided to go for it.
We took the paper off the can, opened it halfway, and put in a pan. We filled the pan with water almost up to the edge, and then just let it simmer for like 10 hours.*

*As a side note, when you do this you might want to use a stainless steel pot, because where the can is metal, it leaves rust rings in the bottom of the pot. However, Barkeepers friend takes it off with a little elbow grease.

  Back to my story.
We opened up the can, and dumped the now caramel color sweetened condensed milk into a container! I used a hand whisk to take the little lumps out and voila! DDL!

Needless to say, these were a big hit! Also, she has a recipe for cookies with this stuff in between.

  Gasp!

I know! That's next on our list of things to make.
All I can say, is it's a good thing DDL takes that long to make; otherwise I'd be in trouble.
  Big trouble.

Spring!

Today was a wonderful spring day! I was so excited to get outside and take some pictures that, at the end of the day, I couldn't believe how many I'd taken!
Anyway, here are a few of them:

I love this one! I think it captures spring perfectly!
